About
The Department of Politics started functioning at the under graduate general level since 1954 and at the special level since 1966. The department has been conducting the M.A Politics course since July 2002 and has been steadily and successfully achieving its objective. The Department was awarded the Best Department Award by the college in the year 2005-2006. The department hopes to achieve the same this year as well.
The faculty comprised of Prof. G.V Ambekar who headed the Department from 1954 to 1990. He was succeeded by Prof. S.G.Vaze who was the Head of the Department from 1990 to 1997. Since 1997 the Department is headed by Dr. Sharad Ghodke
Teaching Methodology
Student Strength
The strength of the students at the U.G. and P.G. level of the department has always been good and is steadily on the rise year after year. The students come from all parts of India especially from the North East at the P.G. level. Following is the strength of the students at the U.G level and P.G level. The Male/Female category is approximately 40% males and 60% females. The open and reserved categories are according to the university prescribed rules. The Department has a lot of students from outside the state especially the North East. The approximate ratio of such students is 50% from states like Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and so on. The department also has three international students from Afganistan and Iran.
Admission to the above mentioned courses are according to the rules prescribed by the University for the purpose. The criteria applied for admission is merit along with the quota for open and reserved categories.
FUTURE PLANS
To improve the quality of interaction with the students the department endeavours to start several new programmes.
